A lack of inputs to produce Covid-19 tests and train health professionals prevented states from using 45 out of 47 laboratories made available by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), as reported by news website Poder 360. These laboratories can produce 740 tests per day, but only the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Santa Catarina have used the available infrastructure.
In Minas Gerais, two other production centers are in the process of validation, but there is no forecast on when tests will be manufactured. There are more than 53,600 exams awaiting analysis in public laboratories. On Wednesday, the Health Ministry reported that Brazil has 125,218 registered cases and 8,536 deaths. But underreporting means the actual number is likely much higher.
