Brazil’s Foreign Minister warns of Slavoj Žižek and his “commie-virus”

With pressing issues at hand during the biggest pandemic in living memory, Brazil’s Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo found time to write a 2,150-word article on his personal blog, denouncing Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek and his supposed plan to implant communism during the coronavirus pandemic, which Mr. Araújo called the “commie-virus.” 

In a review of the left-wing thinker’s latest book “Virus,” Brazil’s chancellor says it “reveals what the Marxists were hiding for 30 years,” suggesting that “globalism” would be the substitute for socialism as the intermediate stage before full communism.

As we have reported in the past, Brazil’s foreign policy under President Bolsonaro can be summed up by an article written by Mr. Araújo before taking office, in which he called U.S. President Donald Trump’s conservativism the “ideological medicine” for the West. As a declared follower of self-proclaimed philosopher Olavo de Carvalho — often regarded as the government’s intellectual guru — Mr. Araújo is a clear example of how the Bolsonaro government continues to use ideological fantasies as straw men.
