Justice Minister Sergio Moro said the Covid-19 outbreak is having a mixed impact on public security in Brazil, and it is too soon to have a clear idea about trends in the entire country, as states are showing varied results.
Mr. Moro stated that the type of wrongdoings being committed has changed: while cybercrimes are expected to rise, highway police have reported a drop in the number of accidents, deaths, and cargo theft on the road from March 11 to April 12, in comparison with 2019 levels.
As Justice Minister Moro mentioned, traffic collisions fell 28 percent, serious traffic collisions dropped 23%, with 7% fewer deaths, and 19% fewer incidents of cargo theft.
