Along with scientists from a number of reputable institutions, Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta has signed a study published in the journal of the Brazilian Tropical Medicine Society forecasting a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases around the country and stressing the importance of social isolation measures.
According to the study, co-signed by scientists from the Ministry of Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Tropical Medicine Foundation, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul and State University of Amazonas, Brazil is set to see a spike in cases during the coming weeks, even with strict social isolation policies.
“Various mathematical models show that the virus will potentially be circulating until around September, with a significant spike in cases during April and May,” states the report.
