The city of São Paulo will receive BRL 50 million from the state government to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. The money will be used to build field hospitals. The first such facility in the city was presented this afternoon, set up in the former municipal Pacaembu football stadium. It will begin operations on April 1.
With the addition of the new temporary hospital, the city of São Paulo will have an extra 2,100 regular beds and 725 new intensive care beds. The health authorities of São Paulo announced that the state has recorded 1,223 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 69 deaths, all but one coming in the state capital.
According to state Health Secretary José Henrique Germann, the behavior of the virus has not changed in Brazil’s warmer climate, contrary to what was predicted. But he said that the rate of daily growth of infections, which varies between 11 and 20 percent, brings positive perspectives for the resumption of normality next April 7.
