Venezuela: mandatory booster Covid shots once every four months

President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela addressed the nation last week and announced that all citizens will have to take Covid vaccine boosters every four months. 

“Until we have medicines that can cure the coronavirus,” the additional jabs will be mandatory, said the chief of state. Mr. Maduro said this is part of an effort alongside Russia, China, and Cuba – nations that have been granting Venezuela’s vaccines ever since the national campaign started in 2021. 

Despite suspicions of underreported figures, the president said his administration is heading towards “vaccinating 100 percent of the population over 18,” and that the vaccination rate of people aged 2 to 17 is “at 60 percent.”
