Nine Brazilian states allow return to in-person classes for all students

A year and a half after the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, all public school students in nine Brazilian states will now be allowed to return to Monday to Friday in-person classes. In another 12 states, classes still adhere to a hybrid format, and two states have mandatory face-to-face classes for only a part of students.

Classrooms were fully opened in public schools in Amazonas, Pará, Amapá, Maranhão, Ceará, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Espírito Santo.

The government of São Paulo announced that in-person schooling will once again become mandatory for all students as of Monday. Bahia and Mato Grosso will also resume entirely face-to-face lessons on the same day. In Alagoas and Roraima, the state has only allowed in-person classes for certain grades. Students in Piauí will only fully return to classrooms on November 1.
