Germany to permit entry to Brazilian tourists vaccinated with CoronaVac

Germany joined the list of countries to allow the entry of Brazilians vaccinated with the Chinese-made CoronaVac vaccine, which accounts for a large portion of immunizers administered in Brazil. The country had already taken Brazil off its red list in August, but only waived the need for quarantine for visitors fully vaccinated using immunizers approved for use in the European Union — excluding CoronaVac. 

The new rules will take effect on Sunday and also apply to visitors from South Africa, India, and 11 other countries.

Fully vaccinated Brazilians are now permitted to travel quarantine-free to Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Croatia, and Spain. France allows vaccinated Brazilian tourists to avoid quarantine, but has yet to accept CoronaVac as a valid immunized.

Meanwhile, the announcement came on the same day as the United Kingdom announced a shakeup to its international travel rules. The country scrapped its red, amber, green “traffic light” system, in favor of a single red list. While there was some hope that restrictions on Brazilian citizens would be loosened, the country remains on the British red list for the foreseeable future.
