Bolsonaro rejection rate hits record high in latest opinion poll

President Jair Bolsonaro saw his rejection rates climb from 51 percent in February to an all-time-high 62.5 percent in July, according to an opinion poll commissioned by the National Transport Confederation (CNT).

The rate of respondents who rate the Bolsonaro government as “bad/terrible” also increased, hitting 48.2 percent — an extra 13 percentage points in relation to five months ago. The share of the electorate who believe the far-right president is doing a “good/great” job fell to 27.7 percent.

Perhaps most worrying for the administration, however, were the poll’s projections for the 2022 presidential election. When shown a list of potential candidates, 41.3 percent of respondents said they would vote for center-left former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva — over just 26.6 percent who declared support for Mr. Bolsonaro.

The poll interviewed 2,002 people in 25 states, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
