São Paulo’s private hospitals reported a 6-percent drop in ICU occupancy between June 14 and 18. However, the relief in intensive care was followed by a 20-percent increase in overall Covid-19 hospitalizations, according to a survey by hospital union SindHosp.
Two-thirds of the 101 hospitals in the study reported an increase in hospitalizations in the ten days prior to the data collection. The share of hospitals with 80 percent of their beds filled jumped from 67 percent on June 1 to 81 percent on June 18. The hospitals consulted by SindHosp have a total of 4,089 ICU beds and 9,593 regular beds reserved for Covid-19 patients.
Moreover, prices of intubation drugs continue to rise, with 65 percent of hospitals reporting price spikes for these medicines.
