Over one year into the Covid-19 pandemic, private health regulator ANS is now demanding HMOs give immediate authorization for customers seeking to take RT-PCR antibodies tests to detect the coronavirus.
The new rules came into effect with a change to the ANS’ coverage rules in early April. Before, insurers could take up to three days to allow patients to receive tests. However, doctor’s prescriptions are still required before testing may be covered by health plans.
Difficulties in obtaining Covid-19 tests led to a high level of complaints about HMOs. According to ANS data, test-related issues made up for 47 percent of the complaints related to Covid-19 coverage in February.
