Panama president grants “enough vaccines” due to 2020 deals

President Laurentino ‘Nito’ Cortizo of Panama said his country “fortunately” has enough Covid-19 vaccines for its national campaign, as his administration has been working to secure purchases since June 2020. “We have a good number now.”

The 4.3-million-people Central American nation has purchased 7.2 million vaccines: 5 million from Pfizer and the rest from AstraZeneca, Janssen, and the UN-backed COVAX facility. The government has fully vaccinated 3.7 percent of its population. The plan is to immunize everyone over 12 years old by the end of the year.

Panama reports 358,611 coronavirus infections and 6,613 deaths from Covid-19 as of April 13.
