Brazil lost 24 trees per second in 2020

Deforestation in Brazil’s six biomes jumped 13.6 percent in 2020, reaching 13,853 square kilometers. That is an area almost the size of Connecticut. Over 60 percent of deforested land was in the Amazon, according to a new report by the MapBiomas Project, which monitors deforestation.
