Meet Latin America’s best restaurants

The Southern Hemisphere summer is the high season for tourism in Latin America, and the most worthy travel experiences to the region often include food, so the timing is right for the release of a list of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants.

From the juiciest slices of meat to unique seafood dishes, incomparable wines, fresh fruits of all kinds, and palatable ornaments reminiscent of the continent’s native nature, Latin American gastronomy offers a state-of-the-art knife and fork-experience whose flavor is also original.

The list, compiled by the UK media company William Reed — which also produces the famous World’s 50 Best Restaurants index — was announced on November 15 during a ceremony in the Mexican city of Mérida, based on chefs’ opinions, owners, gourmets, food journalists, and critics. 

The region’s top 50 exhibits restaurants from 11 countries, with Latin American giants Mexico and Brazil unsurprisingly leading in appearances — occupying 12 and 10 spots, respectively, almost half of the total.

But the list also celebrates diversity, focusing on Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay as well, suiting a wide array of tastes.
