Tech Roundup: Most fraud attempts occur on apps

Company apps are top targets for fraud

Among more than 150 million transactions analyzed by AllowMe’s anti-fraud platform last year, more than 700,000 suspected cases of fraud were detected.

State of play. In its Device Fraud Scan 2024 study, presented at the cybersecurity congress of the banking federation Febraban the previous week, the platform shows that most fraud attempts (87.2 percent) took place in company apps, not in browsers (12.8 percent).

  • “For the first time, we saw higher fraud attempts on mobile devices than on desktops,” explains the director of authentication and fraud prevention products at Serasa Experian, Gustavo Monteiro.
  • Last year, AllowMe was acquired by Serasa Experian, a credit protection platform. It was purchased for USD 45 million from Tempest Serviços de Informática, a company controlled by Embraer.
