Twenty Brazilian companies to test four-day workweek

Starting tomorrow, September 5, twenty Brazilian companies with more than 400 employees will participate in an experiment to test a four-day workweek in practice. They were selected from hundreds of applicants by 4 Day Week Brazil, a coalition led by Renata Rivetti of Reconnect Happiness at Work, the exclusive partner of 4 Day Week Global in Brazil.

State of play. Companies are starting to plan for the new routine this week. In November, the first surveys with participants will begin, and in December, everyone will be working fewer hours per week. From then on, the test will run for six months.

Why it matters. It is the first experiment of its kind in Latin America. “Since 2019, we have seen a growing interest in the four-day workweek in Brazil, with innovative companies such as Shoot, Zee Dog, Crawly, Efí, and Winnin already adopting this model, although they are not part of our experiment. Our pilot in Brazil aims to add a research base for the adoption of this practice in the country,” Gabriela Brasil, head of community at 4 Day Week Global, tells The Brazilian Report. 

• Companies from the United Kingdom, U.S., Ireland, Portugal, and South Africa have already participated in pilot projects coordinated by 4 Day Week.
