This is our weekly Tech roundup, with the main topics on technology and innovation in Brazil. In this issue: the debut of 5G technology in Brazil.
Last week, São Paulo became the fifth Brazilian state capital to receive 5G in the 3.5 GHz standalone frequency, just weeks after Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, and João Pessoa started offering the technology.
But even before the “official” arrival of 5G in the country, it was already possible to enjoy some of the technology’s advantages with non-standalone 5G, which uses a 5G frequency with a 4G-network “core,” and tests with private 5G networks of some companies and institutions.
Connections. Per telecom agency Anatel, counting only non-standalone 5G, the institution’s 5G base came close to surpassing the mark of 3 million accesses, hitting 2.89 million in June. In six months, the base grew 136 percent.
