Roraima, Brazil’s northernmost state, is the only Brazilian state not connected to the national power grid. Roughly 70 percent of the state’s energy supply comes from Venezuela and is transmitted through a line opened back in 2001. As its neighboring country battles a full-scale crisis, Roraima has suffered from constant power outages. Between August and October, 17 blackouts were registered by a Federal Monitoring Committee.
