Timeline: Brazilian politics, how did we get here?

This year’s presidential election has been the most polarizing in Brazil’s democratic history, but this hasn’t happened overnight. Since 2010, the country has been steadily divided, stimulated by elections, protests, corruption scandals, and arrests. Not to mention a very controversial impeachment process. Of the two main political leaders, one campaigned from a hospital bed – and the other from jail. Of course, we’re talking about Jair Bolsonaro and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, respectively. Here at The Brazilian Report, we take a look back at exactly how we got to this point....
