Michel Temer, the first Brazilian president to ever face an indictment request – actually, two of them – has also become the first Brazilian president to have his bank accounts scrutinized by federal investigators. Supreme Court Justice Luís Roberto Barroso has authorized the Federal Police to lift Temer’s bank secrecy, as well as the bank secrecy for two of his closest allies.

Temer is accused of accepting a kickback in exchange for signing a decree crafted to help a company operating in the Port of Santos.
