- BRL against USD. The U.S. Dollar lost steam on Friday, dropping by over 2% and closing the day at the BRL 3.70 mark. On Thursday, when the USD approach the BRL 3.80 mark, the Central Bank announced it could burn an additional USD 10bn in swap contracts to hold down the USD.
- 2018 Election (1). Center-left presidential candidate Ciro Gomes will probably choose steelmaking tycoon Benjamin Steinbruch as his running mate in October. Steinbruch left the Conselhão, a group of businessmen who advise the federal government, in time to join the ticket.
- 2018 Election (2). A strange phenomenon happens with Former Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles’s presidential bid. While his own party admits to the possibility of dropping out the race, the social democrats of PSDB want Meirelles to run at all cost. That’s because the party believes that the toxicity of the Michel Temer administration would be concentrated on Meirelles.
