The aftermath of the Cristina Kirchner assassination attempt
The image of a gun being fired from point-blank range at Vice President Cristina Kirchner will remain seared into Argentina’s memory for years to come. The attempt to assassinate the country’s most dominant political figure in the last decade displaced every other issue at the top of Argentina’s agenda.
The crime scene. The former president did not fully understand what had happened until she saw it on TV later, according to her statement to a judge. In fact, Ms. Kirchner even hopped on top of her car’s roof to wave goodbye to supporters minutes after the incident, an incredible risk had there been a second shooter.
