Ecuador turmoil a bad omen for neighbors
Back in 2019, an 11-day wave of protests sparked by the end of fuel subsidies almost toppled then-President Lenín Moreno and forced him to temporarily transfer the government from Quito to Guayaquil. Almost three years later, fuel price hikes are once again rocking the sitting head of state.
What is happening. President Guillermo Lasso is facing a wave of nationwide protests that is even bigger than the one in 2019. Demonstrations began on June 13, motivated by high food and fuel prices.
