Lula wants 2025 climate conference in the Amazon
With President Jair Bolsonaro staying in seclusion since his electoral defeat (he is less present on social media, has very few official commitments, and skipped the G20 meeting), President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been the unchallenged star of Brazil at the COP27 UN climate summit.
First words. In Egypt since yesterday, Lula has already met with climate envoys from China and the U.S. In his meeting with the U.S.’s John Kerry, Lula reportedly said “Brazil is back to the climate agenda.” Mr. Kerry told the BBC he was confident Lula would bring a “complete turnaround” to Brazil’s environmental approach.
