The final stretch of the Brazilian runoff election campaign took an absurd turn this weekend as federal marshals were instructed to arrest former Congressman Roberto Jefferson, the de facto boss of the Brazilian Labor Party (PTB) and a staunch supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro. Instead of surrendering peacefully, Mr. Jefferson met law enforcement agents with grenades and shots from a military-use rifle. Two police officers were injured.
