Bolsonaro officially launches re-election campaign
At the Liberal Party’s national convention in Rio de Janeiro, Jair Bolsonaro gathered supporters to officially launch his bid for re-election.
What he is saying. Speaking without a teleprompter for an hour, the president repeated many of his old tropes: bashing the Workers’ Party, warning supporters of the risks of a left-backed “gender ideology” (which would muddy the waters of children’s gender identification), and discussing abortions.
- And while Mr. Bolsonaro didn’t mention the electronic voting machines that he constantly accuses of being rigged, he did make generic mentions of election “fraud” and attacked the Supreme Court — calling justices “blind people in black robes.”
