The Armed Forces are losing prestige
Brazilians have historically been distrustful of their institutions. But the most recent edition of “The Face of Democracy,” a survey by researchers from four universities looking at how Brazilians view democratic institutions, shows an uptick in trust. Though most voters still have a negative view of Congress, the Supreme Court, and political parties, this attitude has shifted recently.
Yes, but … The opposite has taken place with the Armed Forces, which under Jair Bolsonaro have moved to the forefront of Brazilian political life. After the current government took office, total distrust in the military rose by 8 points.
