Supreme Court justice puts his foot down on visitor vaccine requirements
On Saturday, a Supreme Court justice issued an injunction forcing the federal government to impose vaccine mandates on people arriving in Brazil from abroad. The government had decided against the move last week, only requiring tourists to provide a negative RT-PCR test. Unvaccinated travelers would have to self-quarantine for five days — although state authorities had said they do not have the means to enforce these quarantines.
Why it matters. In his decision, Justice LuĂs Roberto Barroso echoes concerns from the head of federal health regulatory agency Anvisa about Brazil becoming an anti-vax tourism haven.
