Brazil back at the G7 summit, 14 years later
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived in Hiroshima yesterday for the G7 summit, the group of leaders of the world’s major industrial democracies. The last time Brazil was invited to the gathering was in 2009, during Lula’s second term — when the group was still known as the G8, before Russia’s exclusion in 2014.
- At the time, the Brazilian leader urged the West’s most powerful leaders to include other partners, such as all the BRICS nations and Mexico.
