Who will be Lula’s guy for the economy?
With just 37 days to go until Inauguration Day, President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has yet to make any cabinet appointments. For comparison’s sake, current President Jair Bolsonaro had already named 12 members of his cabinet by this time four years ago — including key offices such as the Health, Agriculture, Justice, Economy, and Education Ministries.
- But in no area is the nomination more anticipated than for the economy.
Why it matters. Selecting a leader of the next government’s economic team is necessary to advance negotiations in Congress to include a spending waiver in next year’s budget, without which the next administration will take office with its hands tied.
