Transition process officially begins today
Appointed head of the government transition team, Vice President-elect Geraldo Alckmin will today meet with Ciro Nogueira, President Jair Bolsonaro’s chief of staff, to begin the transition between the outgoing administration and the new one, which takes office on January 1.
- Mr. Alckmin will be accompanied by Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann, chair of the Workers’ Party, and Alozio Mercadante, who coordinated Lula’s campaign manifesto.
Why it matters. Incoming administrations have the right to appoint a team of up to 50 people who will get access to government information. This process of almost two months aims at making it easier for new governments to settle in.
