Will the military hold a parallel vote count?
Citing unnamed sources, newspaper Folha de S.Paulo on Monday reported that the military would hold an unprecedented inspection of Brazil’s electronic voting system.
- The effort, which the paper said was agreed upon by electoral authorities, would include privileged access to real-time data of the vote count on Election Day and selecting 385 electronic ballot boxes (out of roughly 500,000) for a check.
- This check would consist of reading ballot bulletins, which allows quick access to the results of a polling station for anyone with a smartphone. Then, they would compare the results to the official vote count (the data of which, according to Folha, would be granted in advance).
