Despite Western sanctions, Brazil wants to buy Russian diesel
Brazil sealed a deal with Russia to secure a “reliable” source of diesel in the coming months, Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos França told the UN Security Council on Tuesday. Mr. França confirmed what President Jair Bolsonaro has told supporters in recent days.
- Mr. Bolsonaro says shipments could arrive in Brazil within two months.
Why it matters. The government aims at securing a crucial supply to farmers, as the sugarcane and oilseed harvests peak in the second half of the year, and transporters, as almost two-thirds of cargo is moved around Brazil on trucks.
