Brazil and EU in a cockfight
Brazil presented a request for consultations with the European Union on Monday due to the bloc’s “discriminatory sanitary controls for the detection of salmonella in salted chicken meat and turkey meat with pepper,” as part of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Dispute Settlement Mechanism.
Why it matters. A request for consultations is the first step in a WTO dispute. If an amicable settlement is not reached, Brazil could open a panel against the EU to solve the issue.
