Preparing for cyber warfare
Brazil held the third edition of Cyber Guardian this week, the biggest cyber warfare simulation in the southern hemisphere. This year’s event involved 350 people and 65 organizations. Cyber Guardian ran realistic simulations of attacks on systems controlling water, energy, transportation, and telecommunications infrastructure — as well as financial institutions — with participants having to make real-time decisions to counter “hackers.”
- In previous years, only government institutions took part in the event. But more and more private companies have gotten involved, seeking to enhance their cybersecurity.
- The Brazilian Army, which coordinates the effort, claims Cyber Guardian is on a similar level to NATO’s Locked Shields exercise. It offers participants unprecedented opportunities to test their skills in a safe environment while being aggressively challenged by a highly skilled adversary.
