Bolsonaro’s health condition
The medical team taking care of President Jair Bolsonaro say he will be given “conservative treatment” for a bowel obstruction, adding that he will not require immediate surgery. Mr. Bolsonaro checked into a hospital in Brasília in the early hours of Wednesday and was later transferred to a São Paulo facility.
- Doctors removed around one liter of fluids from the president’s digestive system which had accumulated due to the obstruction.
- The condition is associated with lingering problems from a stabbing Mr. Bolsonaro suffered while on the campaign trail in 2018. The attack severely injured Mr. Bolsonaro’s intestines and has forced him to undergo four surgeries.
- A presidential aide told Brasília correspondent Janaína Camelo that Mr. Bolsonaro’s condition is “not serious.” Still, his medical staff has not revealed a potential release date.
