From state-to-state, where is doing business easier in Brazil?
The World Bank released a report on how easy it is to do business across Brazil’s 27 states and five macroregions. In the molds of its transnational Doing Business studies, it measures the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it.
The main findings:
- Some of the biggest challenges for businesses in Brazil relate to its lengthy and complex bureaucratic processes. An additional hurdle is the lack of sufficient coordination between local and federal agencies — which often causes overlapping.
- There is enormous disparity between states in regards to how business-friendly they are. The biggest gaps concern contract execution and how long it takes to open a firm.
- However, when it comes to taxation, all states fared similarly — and poorly.
