While the European Union has restricted Brazil’s poultry and fishery imports because of sanitary issues, the country will be certified by the World Organization of Animal Health (OIE) as being “free” of foot-and-mouth disease. The announcement is to be made on Thursday, in Paris.

Foot-and-mouth affects cloven-hooved animals, such as cattle and pork. It is often fatal to animals and, in rare cases, can infect humans.
