According to Ipsos, 51 percent of Brazilian women consider themselves feminists. The result came from a worldwide survey in 30 different nations on the occasion of International Women’s Day. More than 1,000 Brazilians were interviewed.

The figures show that the percentage of self-declared feminists in Brazil is above the global average, as only 40 percent of respondents worldwide agreed with the sentence “I define myself as a feminist.” Among Brazilian men, 35 percent called themselves feminists. In total, 43 percent of Brazilians agreed with the statement and 44 percent disagreed. The “most feminist” nation in the survey was Romania (80 percent), while just 17 percent of Russian respondents agreed with the sentence.

Brazilians also listed what they consider to be the worst gender-related problems in society, with domestic abuse (50 percent), sexual harassment (41 percent), and physical violence (36 percent) being among the most mentioned. Brazilians also think that women are treated worse than men by the government: 59 percent agreed with that statement, above the global average of 32 percent.
