Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourão received his first Covid-19 vaccine shot on Monday. “I did my part as a conscientious citizen,” wrote the 67-year-old VP, adding that he hopes that “Brazilians get as many vaccines as possible.”

Other senior government officials have been immunized already, including Economy Minister Paulo Guedes and the president’s chief security officer Augusto Heleno. It remains a mystery, however, whether President Jair Bolsonaro will join them.

Mr. Bolsonaro recently said he would not get inoculated — saying that catching the virus last year “was the best vaccine possible.” Over the last couple of weeks, however, the government has made a U-turn on its vaccine stance, saying immunization is Brazil’s “weapon” against the coronavirus.
