Chile vaccination effort reaches Antarctica

Authorities in Chile say the country’s vaccination campaign — which happens to be the most advanced one in Latin America — has reached Antarctica. “A relief,” is how the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) described the arrival of jabs. The institute reported that 49 people have already been inoculated — with 53 more to go.

Back in December, the Chilean Army reported that ten civilians and 26 military officials working at the Bernardo O’Higgins base in Antarctica tested positive for Covid-19, making them the first official cases on the frozen continent. The Brazilian Reporttold that story. The spread, however, never evolved into a disastrous situation — and no casualties were reported.
