Six days after testing positive for Covid-19, 45-year-old Senator Alessandro Vieira had to be transferred to an ICU bed in São Paulo’s Sírio-Libanês Hospital. He is reportedly “responding well” to treatment.
There are now three senators in intensive care due to Covid-19 infections.

As of March 2, Mr. Vieira and two other senators tested positive for the coronavirus after attending a meeting in the capital city Brasilia. Among the trio is Senator Major Olímpio, who was intubated four days later.
Since the health crisis started, two Brazilian senators have died of Covid-19. By the turn of the year, at least one in five Brazilian federal lawmakers had been infected.
