The family of 82-year-old Peruvian former dictator Alberto Fujimori asked the country’s Constitutional Court for his “immediate release” from jail, claiming he is at risk of catching Covid-19.

On Friday, the court denied the request to move Mr. Fujimori to house arrest, saying the decision must be made by the Peruvian justice system.

Mr. Fujimori is currently serving a 25-year sentence for corruption and crimes against humanity at Barbadillo prison, in Lima. This month, he faces new accusations related to an ethnic cleansing scandal of indigenous women.
