During an online meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and his Mexican counterpart Andrés Manuel “AMLO” López Obrador yesterday, the White House suggested sharing Covid-19 vaccines with Mexico.
Though no further details have been released yet, AMLO said that Washington was “receptive” to his vaccine request, and that both countries’ health teams would decide “if and when it would be possible.”
Mexico started its vaccination campaign on December 24 and has immunized 2.5 million people so far. However, the coronavirus has been spreading fast throughout the country, and Mexico now has the highest per capita Covid-19 death rate in Latin America, with 1,431 deaths for every million inhabitants.
