In the Amazonian state of Rondônia, every single intensive care unit set aside for Covid-19 has been occupied for the past three weeks. In the private network, hospitals are trying to transfer their patients to other states.
The state’s Health Secretary, Fernando Máximo, has criticized citizens for not respecting the state’s quarantine rules, including curfews and restrictions to non-essential businesses. “Listen to me: there will be no bed for you if you fall ill. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich, poor, male, female, young, or old. There are no available beds,” he said.
Researchers have found six different variants of the coronavirus in Rondônia.
