Mexico detects new, more transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variant

Researchers in Mexico have found a new coronavirus variant already present in over 87 percent of virus samples collected in the country. The so-called B.1.1.222 variant was found in October and has two significant mutations. Phylogenetic studies suggest that it is similar to another variant initially found in the Brazilian Amazon.
