After kicking off vaccinations on February 16, the Dominican Republic began inoculating 242,000 school teachers and other education workers this week.
President Luis Abinader — who won Latin America’s first election during the pandemic — said he hopes to vaccinate 7.8 million Dominicans by the end of the year.
As of February 26, the Caribbean nation has reported 237,000 coronavirus cases and 3,075 confirmed deaths, with the seventh-lowest per capita death rate in the continent. On Wednesday, the country received another 768,000 doses of the CoronaVac vaccine.
