Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes announced on Twitter that his administration will resume vaccination of senior citizens on February 25. The city suspended its immunization campaign last week after running out of doses.
Citizens aged 82 will be the first target — followed by those aged 81 (February 26) and 80 (February 27). Just 1 percent of Rio de Janeiro’s residents are aged between 80 and 84, according to the most recent census data.
But the city still has no information on how it will continue vaccinating those aged 79 or younger.
“We hope to God we can continue vaccinating people next year,” said Mr. Paes. “But we are still waiting for the arrival of more jabs.”Support this coverage →
