With no Carnival, beer crates will be used to transport vaccines in Brazil

As 20 Brazilian states have canceled their Carnival celebrations, the country’s largest brewer Ambev decided to put its beer crates — which would have been distributed to street vendors — to good use. They will now become containers to store and transport Covid-19 vaccines.

The company says it will donate 5,000 crates to the Health Ministry in order to transport vaccine doses. The containers will be equipped with thermometers, so health professionals can see if the immunizers are properly cooled.

Meanwhile, as an attempt to help the independent street vendors that lost their income due to the cancellation of Carnival celebrations, Ambev launched an aid program of its own, distributing up to BRL 255 (USD 47) in vouchers to 20,000 workers.
