Health Ministry announces purchase of 10 million Sputnik V doses

Health Secretary Elcio França told reporters the federal government intends to buy 10 million doses of Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine, providing it obtains regulatory approval and has a “competitive price.”

Per the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the cost of each dose hovers around USD 10, making it cheaper than competitors from Pfizer and Moderna, but more expensive than the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The government also intends to purchase locally-produced Sputnik V vaccines from laboratory União Química in the future. The company is a partner of the Gamaleya Institute in Brazil.
